When you are setting up the Netgear Orbi system in your home, you connect the router to the modem. The Orbi satellites are connected to the Orbi router. Many times during or after setup, the connection between the router and satellites does not happen. Orbi satellite colors help you determine the quality of the connection between the two devices. We shall discuss more about this later in this post. This post will also assist you in getting the connection between the Orbi satellite and router established successfully by resolving the issue. Hence, stick to this 5-minute read!
Why Can’t the Orbi Router and Satellite Connect?
Knowing the causes is important as they will help you avoid the issue the next time. So, find below the list of some common reasons that prevent the Orbi router and satellite connection:
- The satellite and router aren’t able to communicate due to excessive distance between them.
- If a cable is used to make the connection between the devices, then a damaged cable can be the reason.
- The ports are not working or are damaged.
- Devices are not fully powered up.
- Internet connection is shaky and hence the satellite can’t connect to the router.
How to Fix Router and Satellite Connection?
1. Let the Devices Sit Closer
Reduce the distance separating the Orbi router from the satellite. They should communicate smoothly. Unplug the satellite from its current socket and plug it closer to the Orbi router. Now that you have brought the devices close to each other, they will have smooth signal transmission. Now let the devices connect. The light on the satellite should turn solid blue which means a good connection between the devices. If it is amber or magenta then further reduce the distance and see if it works or not.
2. Fix Internet Connection
The Orbi router takes in the internet signals from the modem. The connection established between them must be solid and the router should be able to give out good WiFi signals to the satellite. So, verify the connection between the modem and router first. Replace the cables if required or bring them closer if connected wirelessly. Try accessing the Orbi login page to check if the internet connection is stable or not.
3. Inspect Electricity Supply
The Orbi devices must be fully booted up in case you want the connection to happen without any trouble. We suggest you check the same. Examine the wall sockets and the cables in use and ensure that the power supply is adequate and the devices are powered up properly. You won’t face any issues while connecting them now.
4. Reboot the Devices
This is considered a versatile troubleshooting technique. This has been known to fix many minor to major issues with the technical devices. So, power cycle the network by switching off all the devices in the network. Disconnect the power cables and other cables connected to them. Let the devices sit idle for some time and then make the connections once again. Powering them up is the final step and you are done power cycling the network. Connect the devices and connect to the satellite’s Wi-Fi and access the Orbi router login page to see if the satellite is giving out WiFi signals or not.
5. Sync them Manually
If the devices i.e. the Netgear Orbi router and satellite do not get connected automatically, then you also have the option of syncing them manually to connect them. Press the Sync button on the router and then the satellite. The time gap shouldn’t be more than two minutes. We are sure the Orbi devices will now sync with each other.
In the End
The Netgear Orbi system will be up and working now as the devices are well connected. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a lag-free internet connection throughout the home.
