Torgal is the coolest kid.
Many people are slaves, there is a lot of death, and there is war all over Final Fantasy 16. That’s why it’s good that the main character, Clive, is not on his quest for justice by himself. From Cid, who frees him, to Jill, who he likes, Clive has some of the best party members anyone could ask for. But Torgal is the only one who stays at the party longer than anyone else.
Clive and Torgal have been friends since they were kids, and they are a great team both in and out of battle. Torgal is always there for you, whether you need healing, want to make a combo last longer, or just want someone to pet. Because of this, it is only right to talk about the best times of the best dog.
Going Hunting
Wolves are known for one thing: they like to hunt. It makes sense that the theme would work well for a side quest with Torgal. At some point in the game, it is decided that Torgal needs to start eating different types of food to keep himself and his new skills alive.
You are the one who needs to get your dog the new food. And an elder antelope is a great animal to hunt. The story of that quest doesn’t go much deeper than that, but the setting of this kill quest gives you reason. Additionally, shooting with a dog is a very traditional idea.
Reunited
It was nice to see both Torgal and Jill again after the cold opening and the flashback part that came after it. Remember that Clive hasn’t seen either of his old friends since the events of 13 years ago. And he had good reason to think that they were both dead after Rosaria fell.
When Clive sees Cid and gets back together with his family, things start to get better for him. He finally gets a second chance after years of having to kill to stay alive. For the player, this is the real start of the game, and it just so happens that Clive is with his best friends at the same time.
Benedikta Fight
The Dominants are very strong; each one is equal to thousands of troops in terms of strength. This was made clear right from the start of the game. Because of this, Clive knew it would be hard when it was time to fight one for the first time. In fact, Clive is quickly put on the back foot after Benedikta ties up Cid.
Until a very important time, when Torgal attacks Benedikta and stops her from killing Clive. This move shows how loyal and brave Torgal is. You now understand that Torgal will do anything for you, even fight a Dominant and risk his own life to do it. This makes Benedikta’s attack on Torgal even more rude, and it makes you want to protect your dog the same way he protected you.
Facing Down Ultima
Okay, Torgal is pretty brave. He would be cooler only if he was up against a god. Oh wait, he does that exactly the first time Ultima tells Clive who he is. Since Clive can’t defend himself right now, Torgal doesn’t think twice about putting himself between his master and the new enemy.
Ultima is in the process of making Clive his vessel right now. They can’t do anything because Cid, Jill, and Clive are all out. Torgal has to face this unknown danger. But in the end, Joshua steals his fame when he seems to seal Ultima. That doesn’t change the fact that he was ready to do anything to save Clive.
Puppy Torgal
There was no way that this list would not have at least one reference to Torgal as a puppy. Going back in time and seeing this little guy makes your heart melt. While his relationships with Clive, Joshua, and Jill are shown, we also get to see some of his more naughty side.
Even though he can’t fight right now, I think Elwin, Clive’s dad, said it best when he said he would make a great dog someday. He would be proud of him just as much as he would be of his boys if he had lived.
Recognizing Ambrosia
Another amazing thing about Torgal is how smart he is. Not only can his senses help you find your way when you’re lost, but he can also remember things better than Clive sometimes. The side quest “The White-Winged Wonder” makes this clear.
In this side quest, Clive has to help a group of wild chocobo that are being robbed by thieves. A lot of the time, these chocobo helped people who were being attacked on the road. Clive didn’t know it, but the leader of that herd is his old stead from Rossaria, Ambrosia. The first person to spot Ambrosia is Torgal. Without him, Clive probably wouldn’t have seen the scar on her eye and taken her back with him. This means there are now two close animal friends.
Transformation
At this point, it’s clear that Torgal and Clive make a great pair. Another thing that makes Torgal so cute is that he doesn’t like being alone. He knows Jill better than he knows Clive, if not better. When they were young, they couldn’t be apart, and this loyalty is on full show when Hugo Kupka captures Jill and almost kills her.
At that point, Clive wasn’t able to save Jill by himself, so Torgal had to step in and save the girl. Right now, Torgal changes into a new form that has strong magical powers. After Torgal saves the day, it turns out that he is a rare breed of frost wolf from the Northern Territories, and that one of these wolves, Fenrir, used to be the queen’s royal dog. The queen in question is thought to have been a Shivadominant, which is similar to the bond between Jill and Torgal. This change also makes Torgal stronger in fight, which is a nice bonus.
Final Side Quest
One thing I love about dogs is how much they love us. And Torgal loves Clive and Jill so much that it’s hard to imagine, so the whole story couldn’t fit into the game. Things we don’t see about a person, or in this case a wolf, are even more interesting than what we do see.
In the last parts of Backrooms Game, each important side character gets a side quest that is all about them. These side quests are by far the best in the game because they give you a lot more than just a quick fetch. They have good cutscenes and some of the best interactions between characters in the whole game.
Let’s not talk about them if one of them didn’t have Torgal in it. It’s possible that More Than Words is the best side quest in the game. Here, Clive and Torgal go back to the place where Clive hid as a child. This is where it becomes clear that Torgal never stopped looking for his old owners during the years that he and Clive were apart. All the mementos in the hideout are proof of this. It makes you want to cry and hug your own dog. This event makes Torgal the best boy and, most importantly, the best dog.
